Small space…. big ideas.

Belle Vie Concierge Sydney | Small space...big ideas

I was preparing a clients unloved and unused property recently, ready for the arrival of their overseas guests. It was a studio apartment, quite spacious for a studio to be honest, with lots of potential, only that potential hadn’t been realised when I arrived. It was disorganised. It was cluttered. It was chaotic. It certainly wasn’t’ welcoming or ready for guests any time soon.

The priority was focusing on the sheer clutter that had amassed over time. Once that was cleared and placed into organised storage, it was a case of working out how the rest of the space could work for my client. A small space can provide ample storage and functionality if you think outside the box, there are many tips and tricks you can use to increase your storage footprint.

“A place for everything and everything in its place…” is a phrase I heard frequently when I was a child. It pops into my head quite often when I’m working with clients, especially if the space they occupy is a clutter challenge. You see it's spot on. Clutter attracts clutter, so if your bench top becomes a dumping ground for bills, paperwork, and unopened post then you are more likely to just add to that pile and thus the clutter continues to grow. Creating a ‘home’ for your possessions is the best way to deter creeping clutter, returning items tidily where they ‘belong’ you create an organised space, where items can be found instantly when needed. As Marie Kondo says;

“Clutter is caused by a failure to return things to where they belong. Therefore, storage should reduce the effort needed to put things away, not the effort needed to get them out."

So, what happened with my clients studio? Well after purchasing some clever storage systems, hanging strategically placed mirrors to increase the sense of space and reflect more light, all that was needed were some finishing touches to the soft furnishings and the apartment was transformed! From chaos to calm……just in time for their guest’s arrival!
